I really wanted to love this visit. Klehm Arboretum is, without exaggeration, one of the more beautifully maintained properties I've seen — 155 acres of trails, sculpted landscaping, and architecture that clearly gets real budget and attention. Someone on staff is putting serious work into keeping this place immaculate year-round, and that effort shows in every corner of the grounds. Which is exactly what makes the lack of basic visitor infrastructure so baffling — especially at $12 a person to get in. I visited on an 86°F day with high humidity — not extreme heat, but enough to matter over the course of a few hours on foot. Across the entire 155-acre property, there is a single water source: one fountain/bottle-refill combo, and it's just standard Rockford municipal tap water, no filtration or chilling to speak of. That's it. No second station anywhere on the trail system. No vending machines. No concession stand. Nothing. Think about the scale here: this is a property large enough to require serious sustained investment to maintain — mowing, pruning, irrigation for the plantings, upkeep on multiple buildings — and yet somehow none of that budget or planning extended to spacing ou

Nice enough walk alongside a bunch of plants/trees, a handful of interesting sculptures/artworks, and occasional pretty flowers, but not really lengthy enough or interesting enough to merit the cost of entry imo. In hindsight, I would have skipped this one given the cost of entry.

We had a lovely walk the outer trail. You can stay on paved paths with strollers or go through fairly flat bark trails. I wanted more flowers and more signs naming plants. Two dino statues amused even my 22 yr old. Parking was eas, visitor center very nice.

A very pretty walk when we went. The mosquitos were a little thick in the denser forested areas but a nice place to walk around and identify different trees.

What a sanctuary! Filled with beautiful gardens, colorful, and changing every season! Open lands and deeply wood forests of over 150 acres, with well guided paved trails, perfect for walking, with or without the dog, and a thoughtful handicap accessible environment! Khlem offers unique, fun and peaceful events! Pictured below is a rare and beautiful female Ginko tree. Leaves turn golden yellow in October, and this rarity produces significant stinky fruit. It’s all fun at Khlem.
